Carl W. Sullivan


Funeral Services for Carl W. Sullivan age 78 of 23 Brothers Rd., Massena, NY will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009  at 10:00 AM at the Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St., Massena, NY with Rev.  Michael Gaffney officiating the services. 

Friends are invited to call at the Phillips Memorial Home on Tuesday,  August 4, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.   Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.  

Mr. Sullivan  passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the Massena Memorial Hospital. 

Carl is survived by his children, Cindy and Stephen Bissonette of Stamford, NY; Patrick Sullivan of Massena, NY; Belinda and Wayne Roshia of Massena, NY.  Sister, Marge Bouchard of Massena, NY.  Twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

Carl was born on February 24, 1931 to the late Percy and Addie (Sabin) Sullivan in Massena, NY. 

Carl was also predeceased by his wife, Joan (LaCombe) Sullivan in 2003 and his brother, Paul Sullivan. 

Mr. Sullivan was a member of the VFW, Amvets and the American Legion. 

Carl was retired from the New York State Power Authority where he worked as a Security Guard.

Gary J. Rookey


Gary J. Rookey,  70, of Caroline St. Madrid, NY, died Thursday, August 6, 2009, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice.

Funeral services will be held Monday  at 10:00 am at St. John's the Baptist Church.

Friends and family will be received on  Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, 20 Church St., Madrid. Internment will be in St. John's the Baptist Cemetery.

He is  survived by his loving wife Helen Rookey of nearly 50 years, two daughters, Pamela (David) Weaver, Canton, Tina  Burns, Madrid, three sons Gary and wife Karen Rookey, Madrid, NY,  Steven Rookey and companion Lisa Arquitt,  Madrid, and Brian Rookey, Massena, NY.  Four sisters, Charlotte and husband Alfred White, Madrid, Linda and Robert Clark, Madrid,  Cheryl and husband Larry Miller Madrid, Judy and Tom Dalton, Waddington. Two brothers Rodney and wife Betty Rookey, Madrid, Terry and wife Gail Rookey, Madrid, sister in-law Shirley Rookey, Potsdam.  He is survived by nine grandchildren, Jennifer and Jacob Stone, and Kyle and Kolby Weaver, Canton, Christopher Rookey, Madrid, Steven (Ben) and Bradley Rookey, Madrid, Justin Burns, Madrid, and Amber Hollinger, Madrid and three great-granddaughters, Mackenzie, Stephanie and Alexis, and many niecs and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, William, Gaylord and Paul. 

Born March 3, 1939 to Francis and Emma (Couglar) Rookey in Ogdensburg.

He married Helen Sharlow on March 19, 1960 at St. Mary's Church in Waddington with Rev. Msgr. Robert Arquette.

Fondly knows as "Gramps" by all who knew and loved him, he was a wonderful family man enjoying spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He enjoyed stock car racing and was a driver and car owner for several years at local dirt tracks.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed hunting and watching wrestling on TV.

He also enjoyed having coffee with family and friends.

Carl F. Ayotte

 

There will be no calling hours for Carl F. Ayotte, 65 of Grantville, Norfolk, who passed away on August 7, 2009 at his home.

Memorial services will be at a later date.

Among his survivors are his son, mother, father, sister and brother.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Memorial Home in Madrid.

 

Maria I. Mayhew


Funeral services for Maria I. Mayhew, 83 formerly of 29 Baldwin Ave. Massena will be Wednesday 10:00 am at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev Donald J. Manfred presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends and relatives are invited to call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.

Mrs. Mayhew died Saturday ( August 8, 2009) morning at the Blossom Health Care Center, Rochester, NY.

Surviving Mrs. Mayhew is her husband of 63 years, Charles A. three daughters: Sonia and her companion John LaVair ,Massena,  Mrs Neal ( Cindi ) Pavone of Rochester, Mrs. Mitchell ( Christina Suslan of Mt. Sinai. LI, eight grandchildren: Timothy Glaude, Katey,Victoria and Lisa Pavone, Marissa, Ryan, Alexandra and Benjamin Suslan, three great grandchildren: Jake, Emily and Allison Glaude.

Mrs. Mayhew was predeceased by seven brothers.

Mrs. Mayhew was born June 1, 1926 in Korkon, Poland the daughter of the late Andrew and Tekla (Potperks) Lewcio. 

Maria Mayhew at the age of 15 was separated from her family during the Nazi occupation.

In 1945 she met her future husband Charles A. Mayhew and was married May 4, 1946 on Oberdorf. Germany. She had to make a personal appeal to General Dwight D. Eisenhower to become a US citizen.

After moving to United States in 1946 she and her husband settled in Massena where they raised their three daughters.Mrs Mayhew waitressed for many years at the Schine Inn ,Massena.

She enjoyed cooking and gardening.

Funeral Services for Helena Catherine (White) Savage age 85 will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Church of Sacred Heart .

Helena Catherine (White) Savage  formerly of Brasher Falls, NY and currently residing in Liverpool, NY  passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at her home in Liverpool, NY.   

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-laws, Michael G. Savage of Rose, NY; Edward J. and Sandra Savage of Ogdensburg, NY.  Daughter and son-in-law, Emily and James Nalle of Central Square, NY.  Sisters and brother-in-law, Leona and William Dumas of Malone, NY.  Bernice and Gerald  Shannon of Watertown, NY   Sister-in-law, Isabel White of Syracuse, NY.  Grandchildren, Ticia and Richard Hooper of Watertown, NY,  Josua and Elizabeth Eggleston Cronk Nalle of Morrisville, NY; Jennifer and Brian Savage of Seymour of Charlotte, NC.; Christopher Nalle and Fiance Alicia Baker of Central Square.  Great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Brieanna Nalle both of Mattydale, NY,; Caitlyn and Alexander Seymour of Charlotte, NC.; Lauren Nalle of Morrisville, NY and Elizabeth Hooper of Watertown, NY.  Step grandchildren, Jordan, Evan and Matthew Cronk all of Morrisville, NY.  Future grandchildren, Aiden Baker of Central Square, NY and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Savage was predeceased by her husband Gerald Savage and her brothers, Donald, Leo, Merton, and Paul White.  

Helena was born on June 13, 1924 to the late Elmer and Mary (Santimaw) White in Brasher Falls, NY. 

She married Gerald H. Savage on August 4, 1945 at St. Patrick's Church, Brasher Falls, NY.  Helena graduated from Massena High School in 1941. 

Prior to Marriage, Helena worked for the Massena Coke-Cola Plant in Massena, NY. 

Mrs. Savage was a volunteer on the Red Cross Blood Bank and worked on the local census. 

Helena worked at the  Massena Memorial Hospital during WWII. 

Mrs. Savage was a member of the Racquette Home Bureau and the Knights of Columbus Auxillary. 

In her free time,  Helena enjoyed crafts, reading , playing cards, and sewing which she made all her children and  grandchildren their own Quilt and even made her daughters wedding dress.
